This playful and heartwarming session gives students a behind-the-scenes look at how a picture book comes together. The presentation wraps up with a fun and interactive game where students match word pairs using paper hearts — sparking creativity and connection.Emil will also be giving a special presentation of Hana’s Suitcase, a powerful and moving doorway into Holocaust education, to our Junior/Intermediate students.This unforgettable session, titled “Unpacking the Holocaust: A Playwright’s Journey,” introduces students to the true story of Hana Brady, a young girl killed in Auschwitz, whose suitcase ended up in the hands of children in Tokyo decades later. They tell us who can go on local trips, which children can be in the newsletter, and more!</h2><img src="/images/de2c8be1-2389-44ba-b026-9020421151a6?fingerprint=ppb20251217015036" alt="data " width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block"> <hr> Dear Parent/Caregiver:Re: School Based Rehabilitation Services – Universal Occupational Therapy SupportKidsInclusive has provided Occupational Therapy (OT) services for decades within the school environment.  Occupational Therapists are health professionals who work with children in many different settings and have expert understanding of fine motor (printing, cutting), gross motor (jumping, throwing), self-care (putting on coat, zippers, opening packages), and self-regulation (being able to control emotions and actions) development.   Research has shown that all students in the classroom may benefit from the strategies offered by an OT. For the last 3 years, KidsInclusive, in collaboration with your school board, has gradually implemented OT services rooted in the principles of Universal Design in your child’s school.  For the 2024-2025 school year, we are now fully implementing our Tiered OT services<a href="about:blank" class="editor-link"> to all grades (kindergarten – grade 8 classrooms, kindergarten – grade 12 special education classrooms, and at the secondary level, upon request by the school team).</a>Under this model, the OT and potentially an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) under the supervision of an OT, will support the classroom teacher and school staff by providing activity ideas, trying different materials and tools, sharing resources, and offering strategies for students to participate in classroom activities and routines that address the types of development noted above. As part of this support, the OT may also observe the students in their classrooms, the gym, or playground. Examples of suggestions the OT may provide include: trial of different types of pencil grips and scissors, review of active seating (movement cushion, wobble stool) options, or introduction of exercises and movements to encourage postural control, to help the student learn in the classroom and participate throughout the school day. Teachers may share ideas with you that they are using in their classroom to help your child.If, through this program, your child appears to need more help with their fine motor, gross motor, self-care, or self-regulation skills, the teacher and the OT assigned to the school will discuss whether your child would benefit from more direct support.  If appropriate, the teacher will then speak with you about a referral to KidsInclusive’s School Based Rehabilitation program and obtain consent.  If you have any concerns about your child’s development or do not consent to your child participating in the OT offerings as noted above, please let your child’s teacher know.Please note that KidsInclusive is part of Kingston Health Sciences Centre, which is a teaching facility. As such, learners may be accompanying the OT to their school visits. Beginning Monday, September 8th, students with signed School Day permission forms will be invited to join us at practices on:Mondays: 3:15 - 4:00 pmWednesdays: 8:00 - 8:40 amFridays: 8:00 - 8:40 am**New this year: Meet us at the Fort Henry parking lot at the top of the hill on Saturday, October 11th at 10:00am, to run the course ahead of race day! (This is, of course, optional for runners, but we hope to see you there!) Practices will run rain or shine. Students need to be dressed for the weather. Proper Running shoes are required. Mrs. Pennell has some gently used runners available. Please encourage your runner to talk to Mrs. Pennell if they’d like to try some! Please note that practices will take place at the school and along the neighbourhood sidewalks along Kildare Avenue, Speers Boulevard and Kidd Drive. Road safety will be reviewed with the team. It was great to catch up with all of our families. The children are enthusiastic and already into the groove! We hope you've had a few relaxing moment to digest the summer and look forward to the new year.The bus lane is used in the morning as a "Kiss and Go". Your child will exit the car and staff will ensure the enter the fenced in yard. If you want to get out of the car to walk your child to the yard you are asked to park in the parking lot. The bus loop must move quickly to accommodate cars and buses. We did well this morning and yesterday but we must make sure we are quick; or you'll get a honk from the bus driver. No parking in front of the school or dumpsters ever. Families are walking through the parking lot and could step out in front of a vehicle. Safety is our first priority.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Meet the Teacher Open House</h2><img src="/images/078b472f-0249-438e-b7d4-b47e2f93dcca?fingerprint=ppb20251217013050" alt="FES Open House Oct. 2" width="379" height="508" style="width:379px;height:508px;display:inline-block">We invite you to a Meet the Teacher Open House on Thursday, October 2nd from 4-5. We will also have our annual Scholastic Book Fair open from 4 - 5:30.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Outdoor Forest Play</h2><img src="/images/e9d046fb-908f-4f0f-bb6e-7fb740ba3b30?fingerprint=ppb20251217015139" alt="forest" width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block"> This year, our grade 4-8 students who want to play in the forest at recess will be a Forest Club. Ms. Duncan is the captain of the club! To be in the club, you must come to the meetings, sign a contract and have parent permission. We met today and went over our autumn plans. Tomorrow, students will sign their contract and we will go out as a club to demonstrate the rules and regulations. Parents can look on school-day.com this weekend to sign the parent form. Drive through the bus loop for easy drop offs. No parking in the loop as we need to keep the traffic moving.Please, no drop offs at the front door either. When you stop there, students can run in front or behind the car and get hit by an incoming car. If we ask you to move, remember it is not to be mean, it is to save lives.Students will NOT be in the track/soccer field area before school. All students will be on east side and north side of the school.Before School: Kindergarten's will be in the Kindergarten yard, Primary, Junior and Intermediate students will be on the pavement. No Pirate Ship or soccer field before school.<h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Recess:</h3>Primary students - Grade 1 - 3 - will use the fenced in yard and the small climber just outside the fenced in area. If your child is in a grade 3/4, the grade 4s can choose the primary yard or the junior yard Junior students - Grade 4 -6 - will be on the new yard (track, new climber and old climber)Intermediate students - Grade 7 & 8 - will be on the new yard (track, new climber and old climber) but can also go past the old climber and play in the field above.Wonderful Wednesdays - when the weather cooperates, the primary students swap with the junior and intermediate students on Wednesday afternoons. Dear Families,As we move towards the last week of the 2025-2026 school year, I want to share a few important updates and reminders as we wrap up the year and begin looking ahead to September.2026-2027 School Year Budget At last night’s Regular Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the Limestone District School Board’s 2026-2027 budget, prepared in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Board standards. Board of Trustees Approves 2026–2027 School Year Budget

At its regular meeting on June 17, 2026, the Limestone District School Board of Trustees approved a $340.5 million budget for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a deficit budget balanced through the use of reserve funds.The approved budget complies with Ministry of Education requirements and includes:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Operating expenditures of $316.8 million, representing a $73,000 decrease compared to the previous year.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Capital expenditures of $23.7 million, allocated to school condition improvements and renewal projects.</li></ul>The vast majority of the operating budget is directed to student instruction and relates directly to classroom support. Year End Letter to Students and Parents

The Honourable Paul Calandra, Minister of Education has shared a letter for students, parents and families: Dear Students, Parents and Families,To our amazing students: well done on finishing another school year! This is a good time to celebrate everything you have accomplished over the past several months. You worked hard, took on challenges, learned new things and continued to grow. You should be proud of all you have achieved this year.As you begin your summer break, take time to rest, explore your interests, and enjoy time with family and friends. However you choose to spend your summer, I hope you make the most of the months ahead.To the graduating Class of 2026, congratulations on reaching this important milestone. Graduation marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Whether your next step is college, university, an apprenticeship, the workforce or another pathway, I wish you every success in the years ahead.As families look ahead to September and the start of a new school year, there are a few things to keep in mind. Ontario schools will continue to focus on helping students build strong foundations in reading, writing and math while preparing them for success beyond the classroom. Students in elementary schools will learn from the same core materials and benefit from a revised Kindergarten curriculum focused on foundational literacy, math and science skills. In Grade 7 and 8, updated History courses will include new mandatory content on the history of Black Canadians.In high schools, students in Grade 10 History will have new learning about Black history, the Holocaust and Holodomor. Students will also be required to demonstrate financial literacy as part of earning their high school diploma. To help provide clearer expectations and a more comprehensive picture of student achievement, high school students will complete written final exams during a dedicated exam period, and attendance and classroom participation will form part of their final grade. Together, these changes will help students stay engaged in their learning and be better prepared for life after graduation.I hope the summer ahead provides an opportunity to recharge and enjoy some well-earned time together.
