Emil Sher Presentation on Tuesday! Grade 1-8

sher

We’re excited to welcome Toronto-based author and playwright Emil Sher to our school on October 14 for a special presentation tailored for our primary and junior/intermediate students.

Emil will be sharing their bestselling picture book I Love You More, illustrated by the beloved Barbara Reid, known as the Queen of Plasticine to our primary students. This playful and heartwarming session gives students a behind-the-scenes look at how a picture book comes together. The presentation wraps up with a fun and interactive game where students match word pairs using paper hearts — sparking creativity and connection.

Emil will also be giving a special presentation of Hana’s Suitcase, a powerful and moving doorway into Holocaust education, to our Junior/Intermediate students.

This unforgettable session, titled “Unpacking the Holocaust: A Playwright’s Journey,” introduces students to the true story of Hana Brady, a young girl killed in Auschwitz, whose suitcase ended up in the hands of children in Tokyo decades later. Through the lens of a remarkable Japanese teacher, Emil Sher adapted this story for the stage, pairing the themes of Holocaust and hope in a way that resonates deeply with students of all ages.

Recent teachers reviews:

“We read I Love You More by Emil Sher and Barbara Reid today, and it sparked such a beautiful moment of creativity. After listening, the students came up with their own heartfelt versions, like ‘I love you more than the sun loves to rise each morning.’”

“Unpacking the Holocaust: A Playwright’s Journey is by far the most impactful presentation I have ever seen in my 20+ years as an educator.” — Mike Byers, R. Gordon Sinclair School
“My students were extremely engaged — you could have heard a pin drop! Emil is an amazing storyteller and they hung on every word.” — Theresa Pinho, J.G. Simcoe School

We’re thrilled to offer these enriching experiences to our schooland look forward to seeing their imaginations soar!
