Developing a makerspace at Fairfield

Makerspace Donations Needed
Posted on 03/19/2019
Fairfield Elementary School is developing a makerspace in part of the Resource Centre.

What is a makerspace?  It is a collaborative work area for making, learning, exploring and sharing that uses high tech to no tech tools.

We are starting to develop our makerspace first by ensuring we have a maker culture within our teaching and learning.  This really means that students are learning through inquiry.  This is happening in many classrooms already!

Now we are ready to develop the space by starting to collect materials for low-tech projects.  Specifically we are looking for:

- clean cardboard (cereal boxes, egg cartons, paper towel rolls, any kind of clean cardboard)

- tape (masking, cello, duct, anything!)

Labelled bins will be located in the front foyer for donations.  We will be asking for donations of other materials in the future.  Stay tuned!

Thank you for helping us to create this learning space for our students!
